We struck a cockatoo as we left Roses Park. It hit our extended side mirror. The dashcam captured it.

We turned around to check on it. It had managed to get itself off the road and was sitting quietly stunned. As Trudy approached with a towel it came to its senses and flew off. Perhaps it will die of internal bleeding, but checking the dashcam footage reveals it was never run over so it may be okay.

I got Sierra out of the car to witness her mother’s kindness but as soon as she was on my hip a look of odd concern appeared on her face. She let out a whine and pointed over my shoulder. I turned and was face to face with a bloody emu.

Drove on to Bellingen. A lovely little town. There is a monument to the late David Helfgott. He was a local!

Got some sourdough from Mum’s fave bakery. So good. She’s right to like this place.

We stayed the night in Guyra, the coldest town in NSW.
